Dr. John W. Locke, father of Mrs. Bettie Locke Hamilton of this city, died Sunday afternoon at 5:40 o’clock at Kansas City, Kansas where he was spending the winter with his son, Rev. Edwin Locke. Deceased was 73 years of age and was well known to our older citizens. He occupied the chair of mathematics in Asbury, DePauw University for about 18 years, leaving here in 1872. Mrs. Hamilton left at noon Monday for East St. Louis, Ill where she met the remains, which were taken to Fairfield, Ill where they were interred by the side of Mrs. Hamilton’s mother. On Sunday last Rev John W. Locke, DD formerly of the faculty of the University here died at the resident of his son in Kansas City Kan aged 73 years Mrs. EA Hamilto, daughter of the deceased left here on Monday to attend the funeral of her father, the latest being to meet the remains at St. Louis and accompany them to Fairfield, Ill where they were buried by the side of his wife who had preceded him to the great beyond . ---kbz
