Mrs. Nora F. Lloyd, age 59 years died at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville at 1:15 o’clock this morning of burns suffered at her home, two miles southwest of Russellville late Wednesday when she poured coal oil on live coals. The resulting explosion of the can of coal oil enveloped Mrs. Lloyd in flames. She was rushed to Culver Hospital in an ambulance but was so badly burned that death resulted early today. Mrs. Lloyd, the wife of E. Oliver Lloyd, farmer, returned to the home about 7 o’clock Wednesday evening from the barn, where she had been milking, in her hurry to prepare the evening meal she poured kerosene on live coals in the kitchen range. The resulting explosion enveloped her in flames. She ran screaming into the yard where her husband, who was nearby rushed to her aid and tore burning clothing from her body. He was badly burned about the hands and arms. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd were taken to Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville where little hope was held out for Mrs. Lloyd who was badly burned about the entire body. Her husband was treated at the hospital but was able to return home early today. Mrs. Lloyd’s body was removed to an undertaking parlor at Crawfordsville and prepared for burial. The kitchen of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd was badly damaged by flames, resulting from the explosion. Neighbors, who were attracted to the scene succeeded in extinguishing the flames before they reached other parts of the house. Besides the husband, Mrs. Lloyd is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Florence Byrd of South Bend and Miss Ella Fordyce. - kbz
