Amos Eugene, youngest son of Edward and Lillie Lee, was born at the home where he died in Putnamville, (May 28, 1911, and died Oct. 8, 1915, at the age of four years, four months and ten days. Jeanie, as the family called him, was of a bright, sunny and affectionate disposition and was so devoted to his father, mother and the rest of the children. About one week ago he was taken seriously ill with pneumonia in its worst form and though all was done that medical skill and loving hands could do, early on the morning of the 8th just as the sun was coming up and all nature seemed alive, the little spirit took its flight. During his short illness his suffering was intense but he bore it all with patience and manifested the same disposition that had characterized his life. He was conscious until the last; and just a short time before death came he called father and mother to his bedside and kissing them good-bye said, “Come, go home with me,” and upon being told they could not go, he said, “Well I’m going home.” Although almost just a baby in years he seemed to realize the end was near and talked to his loved ones like one of mature years. And now father and mother you have four little darlings who have gone home and always remember the words of your little boy just a few minutes before he left you. May you so live that when your time comes that you can go home to him and all the other loved us who have gone. Besides his father and mother he leaves two sisters, Mary Madonna and Helen May, and one brother, Edward. I’m a little pilgrim. And a stranger here, Though this world is pleasant, Sin is always near. Mine’s a better country, Where there is no sin. Where the tones of sorrow Never enter in. = kbz
