On the 8th of March, 1870, Mrs. Mary E, wife of Thomas Leach of this county. Mrs. Leach was the daughter of Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Margaret Gilmore and was born in Preble County, Ohio Aug 18, 1825. In 1836 her father, who still survives removed with his family to this county. She was married to Mr. Thomas Leech (sic) on February 19, 1846, who, with two sons, survives to mourn their irreparable loss. Under the influence and careful religious training of Godly parents, she early became a professor of religion and united with the Presbyterian Church. All her after life gave evidence of the genuineness and sincerity of that profession. She was regarded by all who knew her as a lovely woman and an unpretending Christian. She was endowed by nature with those qualities of mind and heart – that amiability of character, that cheerfulness of disposition that sweetness of temper and kindness of heart, which endeared her to all her friends. Grace also added its sweet attractions to her character. Her illness was long and was attended by sufferings the most painful and yet they were endured with the greatest patience and with cordial submission to the will of her Heavenly Father. Her death corresponded to her life. Calm and peaceful, trusting and full of hope, she “fell asleep in Jesus.” --– transcribed by kbz
