W. S. Lawter, age 75, passed away early Monday morning at the family residence near Russellville, following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 1, 1883 near Mill Spring, North Carolina, the son of Lewis and Eliza Lawter. He came to Indiana at an early age and was engaged as a farmer and later entered livestock buying and trading. The deceased was a member of the Morton Masonic Lodge No. 469 and the Union Chapel Church.
Survivors are the wife, Ethel, one son, Ralph, a teacher in the Russellville school; a daughter, Mrs. Noal Nicholson of Bainbridge; two grandchildren Daretha Nicholson and William Neal Lawter; seven nieces, Mrs. Jessie Luttrell, Knoxville, Tenn.; Mrs. Ruby Biggs, Russellville; Mrs. Inez Cofer, Mrs. Carrie Carmichael, Mrs. Grace Nelson, Mrs. Flossie Wells, all of Greencastle; and Elizabeth Fowler of Indianapolis; one nephew, Floyd Fowler of Greencastle.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Union Chapel Church with the Rev. Verl Winslow in charge. Interment will be in the cemetery nearby. The Morton Masonic Lodge will pay their respects Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the McGaughey and Son Funeral Home in Russellville. Friends may call at the funeral home.
