Theodore Lane, 54 years old, one of
Putnam County’s most prominent business men, died suddenly at his home in
Cloverdale at 7 o’clock Sunday night of heart disease. The funeral was on
Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at Christian Church in Cloverdale. The death of Mr. Lane came as a sad surprise
to his many friends, although not in the best of health for more than two
years, he was not believed to be in a serious condition. Sunday evening Mr. and
Mrs. Lane returned to their home from Roachdale, where they had spent the day
with Mr. and Mrs. __ Harrison. Soon
after their arrival home Mr. Lane complained of not feeling well but attributed
his feeling he had eaten too much dinner. Soon after this he helped a servant
carry a washing machine from one room to another. As he started back to the
front of the house he fell. When his wife reached him he was dead. Mr. Lane was
one of the county’s most prominent and wealthy business men. He owned a large
hardware store in Cloverdale and was an excessive (?) land owner. His health began to fall more than two years
ago when at that time he disposed of
hardware stores he owned in Darlington, New Richmond, and in
Greencastle. For several months he was in a hospital in Indianapolis and
finally he found fairly good health. He had not totally regained his full vigor
of strength, however. Beside his wife he leaves an adopted faughter, Mrs. Lelia
Martin of Bedford. - kbz
