LAMBERT, Serena Josephine Tincher Downey

Serena Josephine Lambert daughter of Robert and Elmira Bunten Tincher was born in Marion Township, Putnam County August 10, 1859 and departed this life 9 Dec 1956 age 97 years __ months and 26 days.  She had spent her entire life in Marion Township with the execution of the 20 years she lived in Hendricks County.  She was the last of this pioneer family, the parents and 10 brothers and sisters: William B., Harrison R, Andrew A, Mrs. Sallie Allee, Mrs. Angeline Bowen, Mrs. Ellen Newman, Mrs. Lucy Nichols and Andrew Marshall and Renzo who died in infancy, all preceded her in death.  On Nov 23, 1882 she was united in marriage to Perry Downey.  To this union was born one daughter, Myrtle May.  Mr. Downey passed away Aug 20, 1922.  Following his death she made her home with her brother, Andrew Tincher.  On Sept 4, 1926 she was married to Artemus Edward Lambert who died Nov 20th, 1946.  Since May of 1946 Mrs. Lambert was lovingly and tenderly cared for in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Unith and Myrtle Monday until Sunday Dec 5, 1954 she fell and suffered a fractured hip and was taken to the Putnam County Hospital where she remained until Jan 21, 1955 when she entered the Ruark Nursing Home where Mr. and Mrs. Ruark and all their helpers enjoyed having her with them and gave her such good care and there she quietly went to sleep.  The son-in-law, Unit Monday died July 31st of this year leaving his wife, Myrtle to mourn the loss of the mother who had been so dear to both of them.  Other survivors are nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.   -– kbz   (short poem followed)
