William A. Kreigh passed away at the Putnam County hospital
at 11:58 o’clock Friday night, after an acute illness of only a few days. He
had been at the hospital for the past month but until a few days ago, had been
in his usual health. He had been failing for the past few years, but his
critical illness lasted only a few days. Funeral services will be held at the
Rector funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. CM
McClure, pastor of the Gobin Memorial Church in this city. Burial will be at Stilesville. Friends may
call at the funeral home at any time prior to the services. Mr. Kreigh had lived in Greencastle since
1900, at which time he removed from near Stilesville, establishing his
residence at 902 South Indiana street and becoming one of the best known of the
city’s and county’s citizens. He was in the livery business here and bought and
sold livestock. He was born on a farm
just north of Stilesvlle, the son of George and Zerelda Gabbert Kreigh. George
Kreigh was also a shipper of livestock. W.A. Kreigh having in his possession
sales records kept by his father indicating the latter’s livestock deals
annually ran into many thousands of dollars.
Mr. Kreigh was a director of the First-Citizens Bank of Greencastle. He
was a member of the Elks Lodge and took an active interest in all its
activities. He was the father of two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Cowan of Cedar
Grove, Iowa, and Mrs. WJ Ryan of San Francisco, Calif. The former was with her
father at his death, and the latter will arrive Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Kreigh
also survives. One sister, Mrs. Robert Pounds, now resides on the old home
place near Stilesville. - kbz
