JOSEPH CECIL KNAUER, 79, Greencastle passed away at the Sunset Manor Nursing home early Friday morning (Apr 2). Mr. Knauer was born in Kansas,Nov. 10, 1896, the son of Christopher and Clara Ford Knauer. The Knauer family moved to Putnam County, where Cecil was educated in the Locust Grove and Brick Chapel schools. He was a veteran of World War I and served in the U. S. Army's First Division in France and Germany.

He was married to Etta Baker, April 3, 1920, who survives. Mr. Knauer retired from the American Zinc Products Co. in Greencastle in 1962. He also farmed in Monroe Township, Route 3, Greencastle. Mr. Knauer was a life member of the VFW Post No. 1550 Greencastle, the World War I Barracks No. 114 and the VFW Fathers Auxiliary.

Survivors include the wife, Etta; three sons, Felix, Greencatle, Claude, Greenwood, and Clifford, Waynetown; and three daughters, Maxine Ellis and Mary Day, both Greencastle, and Alice Roberts, Texas. He has 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p. m. from the Hopkins Funeral Home, Greencastle Chapel. Interment with military rites will be conducted in the Brick Chapel Cemetery. Chaplain Earl Best will be in charge of services.

Friends may call at Hopkins Funeral Home, Greencastle Chapel after 1 p. m. Sunday.
