Veterans – as evidence that the climate of Putnam is conducive to long life, a friend has furnished us with the names of the following veterans now living in the county all over 80.  Our informant stated that he knew a number of ladies equally aged but most of them being widows, gallantry forbade him name them.  Greencastle Township, Mr. Smith, aged 93; Jacob Snider, 87; Arthur Connelly 85; James Shields 87; Thomas Gilmore 83; John Standeford, 80; Peter Applegate, 83; Isaac Mahan, 80; Samuel Kennedy, 80.  Washington Township: Simpson Harris, 89; John Furney, 86; Nicholas Mace, 83.  Cloverdale: Robert Connelly, 81.  Floyd: John Millman, 887.  Madison: Joseph Wells, 82.  Monroe: Jeremiah Wampler, 97, Col. AS Farrow, 83.

DIED – in this city yesterday morning at 1 o’clock, Rev. Samuel Kennedy aged 80 years.  Mr. Kennedy was born in Virginia.  61 years ago he joined the ME Church of which he continued a faithful member up to the time of his death and for many years acting in the capacity of a local preacher. The funeral takes place this afternoon at 2 o’clock.


Note: Born 22 July 1795 in Virginia - Died 8 Sept 1875 Greencastle buried there in Forest Hill Cemetery - although listed as a veteran above it does not say anything about that on his FindAGrave entry or above short notice of his death ironically on the same page of his listing as an old soldier !
