The death of Mrs. Mary Jones occurred Thursday morning a few minutes before nine o’clock, at her home on North Madison street, on the 83rd anniversary of the day of her birth. It was the ending of the life of another of this city’s earlier settlers as well as one of our most highly honored women. Mrs. Jones came here from West Virginia with her father’s family sixty-seven years ago, as Miss Mary Daggy. Her father was Jacob Daggy and she was the oldest member of a family of ten children but this is the first death in the family, a most unusual condition. Her brothers and sisters are Ami of Westville; Addison of this city; Wm. Of Indianapolis; Mrs. Sarah Hawking of this city; Mrs. ED Wood of Madison, Wisconsin; Frank of York, Neb; James, Miss Eliza and Charles of this city. Her marriage to RW Jones took place in 1848. His death occurred several years ago. Her home for the last 50 years or more has been in the house in which she died. She had been in poor health for a number of years, principally from rheumatism. She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. Mrs. Jones was the mother of WW Jones, Miss Emma Jones of this city; Charles Jones and Mrs. Ellen Browder of Indianapolis. The funeral will be held at the residence Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. AW Sonne. - kz
