Samuel T. JONES died yesterday afternoon at the home of his nephew, Paul Jones, at 1217 East Appleton Avenue, death being the result of old age. He was born near Greencastle in Putnam County, Indiana November 7, 1826 where he spent the greater part of his life. He came to southeastern Kansas in 1903 with Mr. Jones and has been in Parsons four years. The deceased was a Civil War veteran having worn the blue in Company A, Regiment 23 Indiana Infantry and was taken prisoner in the battle of Uniontown Ky. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in which he spent a large part of his life. The body will be taken to Putnam County, Indiana and will be laid to rest in the old home cemetery. - kbz

Samuel T. Jones died at the home of his nephew, Paul Jones, at Parsons Kansas Tuesday Nov 2. Mr. Jones was born on the Byran farm south of the city Nov 7, 1826. He was the second son of Rev. Benjamin Jones one of the pioneer Methodists of this county. He moved from Greencastle with his parents to Jefferson Township in 1837. Soon after that time his parents died, leaving the younger members of the family to the care of him and his oldest brother. He was never married and made his home with his brother, PA Jones of this county, who with two other brothers, MH Jones of Bloomfield, Iowa and Col. Ben S. Jones of Pasadena, Cal preceded him. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a republican in politics and rendered valuable service to his country during the Civil War. He enlisted in Co A, 78th Regiment, Indiana Infantry July 28, 1862. After being captured at Uniontown, KY he returned home and assisted in clearing the county of the drafts of 1864 and 1865 by raising a large sum of money which was mostly procured by donation. His remains will be brought to this city on Thursday and he will be buried by his father in the country cemetery south of Mt. Meridian.
