Harriet Anderson Jones was born Oct 18, 1842 near Greencastle, Indiana died at 11:25 p.m. Oct 8, 1926 after an illness of four weeks. She was married to John Milton Jones Aug 23, 1866 with whom she lived happily until death called him home March 14, 1900. She and Mr. Jones came to Excelsior Springs 32 years ago from Louisville, Kansas where she has since resided. She became a member of the Christian Church in early girlhood and remained a devoted child of God throughout a long and useful life. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Excelsior Springs. She leaves to mourn her loss a niece, Mrs. Orin Griffing, Council Grove, Kansas whom she reared with tender care from childhood, a half sister, Mrs. Frances Campbell of Topeka, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. In her last illness she was lovingly cared for by her two nieces, Mrs. Griffing and Miss Flora Anderson. Mrs. Jones was a devoted wife and a true and loyal friend. Her loved ones friends and neighbors will remember that there is a voice from the tomb sweeter than song and while the living have fond regrets, they also have tender recollections. The funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the residence after which the body will be taken to Wamego, Kansas for interment – Excelsior Springs Standard. The remains of Mrs. Jones was shipped from Excelsior Springs to Wamego and taken to Louisville where funeral services were held in the ME Church, conducted by Rev. Beamer pastor of the ME Church at Wamego. Interment was made in the Louisville cemetery beside her husband.
