JOHNSON, Cyril L. - Putnam

Cyril L. Johnson, 76, Rt 1, Russellville died Monday evening at his residence.  He had been in failing health since October.  Born Nov 16, 1907 in Putnam County, he was the son of Elmer and Cordelia (Clodfelter) Johnson.  He married May Jo Handy on March 13, 1956 at Jasper and she survives.  Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Russellville HS. He received his BA degree at DePauw University. Later, he obtained an MA degree from Indiana State University.  Mr. Johnson taught school at Waveland, Fillmore, Putnamville and Turkey Run.  He also farmed.  Survivors in addition to his wife include cousins.  Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.  The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church.  He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, was past president of the Hugenot Society of Indiana, a member of the Putnam County Historical Society and several genealogical societies. Mr. Johnson was also a member of the Russellville Masonic Lodge No 141 and was an honorary member of the Waveland Lodge NO 300. The deceased also served as a member of the Putnam County Cemetery board.  Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home Russellville. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery.  Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  - kbz
