Roachdale, Jan 7 – Amanda Jane Johnson, 89, passed away at her home here Saturday morning at about 8:40 o’clock after an illness of three months. Death was due to infirmities of old age and to a fractured hip which the deceased suffered some time ago. The stricken Woman was born in Putnam County on Dec 8, 1841, the daughter of Larkin and Mary Rogers. She was married to Russell Johnson on Dec 27, 1863. During the last years of her life she resided in Roachdale and was well-known for her acts of kindness to the poor and homeless. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs… Martha Moore of Ladoga and Mrs. Nancy Tague of Russellville, a foster daughter, Mrs. Ethel Fry of Roachdale and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the Roachdale ME Church with the Rev. CL Airhart in charge. Burial will be made in the Roachdale Cemetery. --- transcribed by kbz
