ALEXANDER JOHNSON

Source: Greencastle Banner-Times 15 Dec 1893

Alexander Johnson, living one mile south of Oakalla died very suddenly Saturday morning. He had eaten a hearty breakfast and had shouldered his axe for a day’s work. He repaired to a wood on his farm and was engaged in felling a tree. His sons, James, John and Sam came along on their way to this city and as their father complained of feeling badly, they cut down the tree for him.  Mr. Johnson sank back on the ground when he had seated himself and his sons, noticing his condition ran to his side. He was dying and they carried the body of their father to his house. Dr. GW Bence, was summoned but long before he got started to Oakalla, Mr. Johnson had breathed his last. Dr. Bence returned at noon and stated to a reporter that death occurred about 8:15 o’clock Saturday morning the cause being apoplexy. Mr. Johnson was one of the best known men in the county, having been for many years engaged in business at the Junction. He purchased the old Torr homestead some years ago near Oakalla where he has since resided. His age was 66 years. - kbz
