HURST, Virginia Gose

Source: Greencastle Herald, 19 Sept 1927 p 3

Virginia Caroline Gose was the daughter of John and Mary Gose. She was born in Putnam, Indiana, Feb. 22, 1842. She was of a family of 12 children of which she is the last, save one, Mrs. Emma Boardman of Greencastle. She was united in marriage to Martin Hurst, Jan, 19, 1865. To this union 7 children were born, one daughter and six sons. Albert, Walter and Edgar having preceded her to the better world. She is survived by the following children: Ida Lee of Greencastle, Lawrence of Florida, Paul and Theodore, both of Greencastle, nineteen grand children and nine great grandchildren. She united with Mill Creek church of Primitive Baptists more than forty years ago, later transferring her membership to the Deer Creek church of the same faith. She was a most devoted mother always filling her place until the infirmities of age prevented. She was unusually gifted in song and often led the singing and many of us will never forget the melody of her voice as she sang the old familiar songs used in the worship. Martin C. Hurst, the husband, died Feb. 4. 1899. She remained his widow until Sept. 16, 1902 when she was united in marriage to Henry S. Akers and since hisgdeath she has made her home with her children for the most part. Her affliction has been of long duration, but out of it all the Lord delivered her and she went away to be forever with Him Sept. 11, 1927. A precious one from us is gone, A voice we loved is still. A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled.

CARD OF THANKS The family wish to express to all our dear friends their deepest appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown us in the hour when we were compelled to bury out of our sight forever all that remains on earth of our best friend, our dear precious mother.
