HURST, Clyde - WWI - Putnam

We are able to give our readers this week, a more detailed account of the death of Clyde Hurst of Cloverdale, which was mentioned in a recent issue of the Herald. The first news of his illness reached the family a week before and Mr. Hurst went at once to Burlington. He found his son in a very bad condition and summoned the best medical aid in Boston. Clyde rallied for a time but later grew worse and died Saturday evening. Mr. Hurst arrived in Cloverdale with the body Monday night and the funeral was held Wednesday morning. He is survived by his father, mother and three brothers, Raymond of Greencastle, Herschel with the American Forces in France and Charles at home and one sister, Mrs. Mangus Chaunce of Brookville. Clyde enlisted the latter part of June and left for training at Valparaiso about July 1. He was later transferred to the camp at Burlington where his death occurred. For 10 years he had been connected with the Cloverdale Hardware & Lumber Co and had made himself very efficient in all lines of the business. The Hurst family resided here a few years ago and still have many friends here who sympathize with them in their great sorrow.
