HURST, Alton O. - Putnam

Alton O Hurst, 77, 17 Sunset Drive, Greencastle, passed away Saturday morning at his residence.

The longtime local auctioneer was born Oct. 23,19004 in Putnam County, the son of Paul and Gertrude (Cooper) Hurst. On April 20,1924, he married the former Elizabeth Walton, and she survives.

A retired auctioneer and farmer, Mr. Hurst was formerly farm representative for First Citizens Bank for several rears. He was also the former part owner of the old Greencastle Sale Barn. He was a lifetime worker in the Baptist Church.

Mr. Hurst was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Victor, Harry and Carlyle; and a sister Pauline Padgett.

In addition to the wife, survivors include two sons, Wilfred and Wendell, both of Greencastle; a daughter Mrs. Wanda Patterson, Greencastle; two daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; a brother, William A. Hurst, Route 5, Greencastle; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 2 p. m. Monday from the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Interment will be in New Providence Cemetery.
