Abram Hurst
was born in Putnam County, Indiana, July 23, 1838. He was married to Margaret
Cole at Savannah, Mo May 16, 1858. To this union 13 children were born, 11 of
whom survive, 5 sons and 6 daughters. There are 55 grandchildren and 15 great
grandchildren. The deceased served in the Civil War in Co B 51st
regiment of Missouri volunteers. In 1866 he came with his family to Kansas. He
was a member of the Christian Church. His death occurred at St. Joseph, Oct 15,
1915. The wife preceded him Dec 1, 1910.
The body was brought to Hiawatha on the noon train Monday and the funeral held
at the Christian Church. Burial was made in the Hiawatha cemetery. These children were here to attend the
