HOWARD, Doctor Samuel - CW

Funeral services were held at the home in Clinton, Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock for DS Howard, Parke County Civil War veteran who died Sunday evening at 7 o’clock following a stroke of paralysis, Friday. He had reached his 89th birthday Friday. Born in Kentucky Dec 26, 1831, Mr. Howard came to Indiana in 1856 and settled near Greencastle, later moving to Rockville where he spent over fifty years of his life. He saw active service in the Civil War and was a member of Co F, 10th Indiana Infantry. A wound received in the battle at Chickamauga, GA in 1863 necessitated the amputation of his right arm some years later. At the close of the war he ranked as a first sergeant. After the funeral the body was taken to Rockville for burial.
