Stuart S. Hostetter, prominent local citizen, was found dead in the garage at his home late Thursday evening of last week. The motor of his automobile was running and it is believed that he ended his own life by breathing the exhaust fumes which contains deadly carbon monoxide gas. His health the past several years is believed to have been the reason for his act. Mr. Hostetter had spent the evening in the business section of Roachdale and had gone home. Mrs. Hostetter returned home about 11 oclock and discovered the body. Mr. Hostetter had been very active in social affairs and was president of Board of Trustees of the Town of Roachdale. He was also a Past Master of Roachdale Lodge No. 602, F. & A. M. He was Past Patron of the chapter of Eastern Star. He was a saleman for the Indianapolis Bond and Share company of Indianapolis and had been an investment and securities saleman several years. Mr. Hostetter was born on a farm near here December 31, 1890, a son of Mr. and Mrs. David B. Hostetter. He graduated from Wabash College in 1912 and a year later he married Florence Irwin, who survives. He was a member of the local Presbyterian church. His father David B. Hostetter died November 29, 1939. Surviving besides the mother and the widow are a son Irwin S. Hostetter and is a student in the Indiana University medical school in Indianapolis; a sister, Miss Mary Hostetter of Indianapolis; four brothers: Howard Hostetter of Bainbridge; Ralph Hostetter of Greencastle, Curtis Hostetter of Rockville and Henry Hostetter of Ft. Wayne and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon.
