GREEN M. HOGUE, was born in Greencastle, Indiana, June 14, 1838; died at Davis City, Iowa, March 16, 1909, aged 70 years, 9 months, and 2 days. The deceased was married at Greencastle, Ind., early in life to Miss Mattie Parris, and the young couple came west locating at Decatur City where they resided for some time, and then resided for several years at Osceola, Lucas, and other towns in southern Iowa, finally locating at Pleasanton where he remained for several years. On June 20, 1888, he was married the second time to Miss Minnie Northcutt and they located at Davis City, where they resided until his death. To their union six children were born, five girls and one boy, the first dying in infancy, and the widow and five children surviving. Mr. Hogue was an expert tinner by trade, having learned the trade at Williamsport, Indiana, and was engaged in this work at the time of his death which was sudden, he being engaged with others in putting on the spouting of a residence at Davis City, when he complained of feeling ill, and before his companions could summon medical assistance he was dead. He served as a volunteer during the war of the rebellion, being a private in Co. C, 105th Indiana Infantry, and for many years a prominent member of Davis City Post of G.A.R. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge, which conducted the last rites at his funeral, which was held at the Davis City M.E. church on Thursday afternoon. Some years ago Mr. Hogue united with the church of his choice and died firm in the belief. He was a kind and loving husband and father, being devoted to his family. He was one of the old business men of Davis City, and always had a pleasant smile and kind word for all. The bereaved family have sympathy of many friends in their affliction.
