Belle Union news – It is with sadness that we announce the death of George W. Hill, one of the oldest settlers of Jefferson Township.  He was born in Washington County, Kentucky in 1804 and moved to Putnam County, March 24, 1814 (?)  smudge) and lived in Jefferson Township until his death April 14, 1883.  He had been afflicted for many years and since December last had been confined to his room ? (smudge).  He called in the best medical ?  to relieve his suffering which at times was very great.  His wife and 7 children survive him and had his remains taken to Valley Church where his funeral was preached by Eld. JW Sherrill.  After service the Masonic order in which he stood high as a brother took charge of the remains and they were interred with Masonic honors.
