Crawfordsville – Mrs. Martha Higgins of Roachdale who was 100 years old on New Year’s Day, died yesterday at a nursing home in Indianapolis. Born at Carpentersville in Putnam County, Mrs. Higgins operated the Roachdale Hotel several years. She was a charter member of the Roachdale Presbyterian Church.  Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anna Patton of Indianapolis and a great grandson, Max Patton Jr, Purdue University student. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Roachdale Presbyterian Church followed by burial at the Roachdale Cemetery - kbz

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Higgins was held from the Presbyterian Church in Roachdale Sunday afternoon. She died in Indianapolis Friday. Mrs. Higgins observed her 100th birthday on January 1, 1955 and at that time had a letter of congratulations from President Eisenhower. The Rev. Malcolm Harris, pastor of the church was in charge of the funeral services. Burial was in the Roachdale cemetery. – kbz
