HEROD, Mary Jane Shoemaker - Putnam

Mary Jane, daughter of James and Elizabeth Shoemaker was born in Putnam County, Ind Feb 28th 1842 and was married to Wm. H. Herod, March the 15th 1860. They both joined the Church of Christ at Fillmore in the Summer of 1860.  From that time until the day of her death, her delight was in the law of the Lord.  She oftimes regretted that she could not attend church more regular.  In her disposition she was mirthful and jovial, warm hearted kind and affectionate, a loving and dutiful wife, and tender mother. She departed this life July 5, 1870 aged 28 years,4 months 5 days, leaving a husband and four small children, two girls and two boys, besides numerous relatives, friends and neighbors to mourn her loss.  She oftimes said when she died she withed Bro Badger to preach her funeral.  He accordingly did so on the 10th inst at the Christian Church in Fllmore.
