INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 12.—George W. Hendrix, 83 years old, a veteran of the Civil war and for many years a guard at the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, died at his home, 2602 North New Jersey street, yesterday morning after an illness of about a week. Mr. Hendrix was born in Putnam county, the son of John Honey Hendrix and Hannah Waller Hendrix, who settled in Putnam county in 1830. When he was 16 years old, Mr. Hendrix enlisted in the 116th regiment, Company C, Indiana Volunteers, and served in the Civil war with that company. He was a member of the George H. Thomas Post of the G. A. R. He is survived by the widow, Mrs, Sarah Farrow Hendrix; four daughters, Mrs. James Sutherland of Indianapolis; Mrs. Thomas Hopkins of Syracuse, N. Y ; Mrs. Harry Machledt of Waveland, and Mrs. Thomas Rutherford of Columbus, O., and two sons. Funeral services will be held in the home. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery.
