Russellville News, Friday Nov 15, 1935

Courtland Fredrick HELM only child of Fred and Clara Helm born Tuscola, Illinois June 27, 1914 died Sunday Nov 10, 1935. They moved to Russellville when he was 12 years of age. Death was due to an automobile accident 13 days before. Burial Tuesday in Russellville Cemetery.

Crawfordsville- Courtland F. Helm, 21, of Russellville, died Sunday in Culver Hospital, bringing to five the toll of an automobile accident a week before on US Road 41 near Jungle Park. Helms suffered a fractured skull. He was employed as a bus boy at Turkey Run State Park hotel and the four others killed were also employed there. The sixth and sole surviving member of the party, Walter Taylor, 18 of Judson continues in a critical condition at the Clinton hospital. - kbz

Courtland Helm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Helm of Russellville Indiana who was injured about two weeks ago in a bad automobile wreck which was printed in the Journal last week died early Sunday morning in the hospital at Crawfordsville, never having regained consciousness. The funeral services were conducted from the Russellville Christian Church on Tuesday at 1:30 o’clock and were very largely attended the church being filled to overflowing. Burial was in the cemetery at that place.  The deceased was 21 years of age and was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Helm who formerly resided 2 ½ miles south of Tuscola and was well known to many people of this vicinity.  His death was the fifth resulting from an accident in which two young men were instantly killed and four others critically injured when the automobile in which the six were riding collided with a concrete bridge and then plunged over about 20 feet into a creek on Indiana State Road 41 about 5 miles north of the Turkey Run State Park.  The remaining young man remains in a  hospital in a semi-conscious condition.  Those attending the funeral from t his locality were Mr. and Mrs. CE Helm, County Judge and Mrs. HC Helm, sister Fae and her husband, AH LeGrande and Wayne Helm; Robert Wright and family; John Thoeming and family; Arthur Heath and family and Ervin Keal and several others whose name we did not get.  From the Camargo and Murdock vicinity were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Overturf; Mr. and Mrs. WR Fenwick; Robert Helm; Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Harris and son Dale and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Burton.- kbz

Crawfordsville, Ind Nov 10 – An automobile crash near Turkey Run State Park last Sunday claimed its fifth life today with the death of Courtland E. Helm, 21 years old in Culver Memorial Hospital.  Walter Taylor, 18 of Judson the only survivor of six men in the automobile when it struck a culver is in a critical condition in a Clinton hospital. Helm was a former basketball player at Russellville HS.
