Ladoga, Ind April 13 – Mrs. Hazel Bales, of Fincastle, has been notified by the Navy department that her son, Pvt. James H. HARNELL, 24, was killed on Iwo Jima March 13.  He had been in service since November 1944 and was a veteran of the Saipan invasion.  Pvt. Harnell was a flame thrower with the 4th Marine Division.  He took his basic training at San Domingo, Cal. Before entering service he worked at the farm home at Fincastle. He attended Carpentersville school and was graduated from Roachdale HS. He is survived by his mother, his widow and an 18-month old son and a sister, Louise, all of Fincastle. He was a nephew of Dode Crodian, Ladoga. – kbz
