Elizabeth Bowers was born in Putnam
County, Indiana Nov 17, 1835. Her parents were pioneers of the Hoosier State.
She was married to James W. Hargrave September 1859 and came with him to share
the joys and privations of a pioneer life.
For over 60 years they lived together. In her girlhood she joined the
Lutheran Church but she, with her husband, were charter members of the
Presbyterian church at West Scipio, afterwards transferring to Richmond in
1879. She was an active member up until 10 years ago since which she has been a
helpless invalid. Her home was a home for the early ministers of all
denomination, rendering whatever assistance she could for the spread of the
gospel truth. She is survived by her aged husband, one son, JA Hargrave and one
daughter, Miss Lillie; also a brother, George Bowers of Crawfordsville, Indiana
and one grandchild, Mrs. Lowell Baldwin of Manhattan. - kbz
