HANNA, Belle

Source: Greencastle Herald 1 June 1931 p 1

Funeral services for Miss Belle Hanna, former Greencastle woman who died Friday afternoon at the home of her brother, WA Hanna in Plainfield were held this afternoon at 1:30 at the home.  Burial was in Forest Hill cemetery here at 2:30 and professor RA Ogg of Greencastle was in charge of short services at the grave.  Miss Hanna organized the public library here over 25 years ago and was in charge of it until ill health forced her to retire in 1927.  At the time the library was organized Professor Ogg was superintendent of the Greencastle schools.  The library was at first housed in the rooms now occupied by the law firm of Hays & Murphy.  After resigning as librarian here Miss Hanna went to Indianapolis but later went to Plainfield to make her home with her brother.  Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy suffered Thursday afternoon at 5 o’clock and from which she did not regain consciousness.  Miss Hanna was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority while a student at DePauw University.  She was a member of a number of Women’s clubs in Greencastle and was active in club work.  She was a cousin of Mrs. J. Lockeridge of Greencastle.    ---transcribed by kbz
