TWO WOMEN KILLED AS TRAIN HITS BUGGY
WARNING SAID TO HAVE BEEN IGNORED AND RACE TO CROSSING AT COATSVILLE IS FATAL BABY BOY SURVIVES
GREENCASTLE Ind. Nov 21
Mrs. Curtis Sims and Mrs Charles Hanlan, living near Broad Park, Putnam County, were killed at Coatsville ten miles east of here, this afternoon when a fast west-bound Vandalia train struck the buggy in which they were riding. The women were thrown from the rig to the cement platform near the station. Mrs. Sims was killed instantly and Mrs. Hanlan lived only a few minutes. A 4 year old son of Mrs. Hanlan was seriously injured, but he probably will live. Both women are survived by families.
WARNING DECLARED UNHEEDED
The accident happened at the street crossing near the Vandalia station. The women had been in Coatsville and had started home. It is said that as they approached the track they were warned by bystanders that the train was coming, but despite this they made an attempt to cross. The view of the track is obstructed by building and this probably caused the women to misjudge the distance of the train. The small son of Mrs. Hanlan was in his mother's arms and it is believed that this alone saved him from being killed, also. The horse and buggy were ground to pieces under the train.

Mrs. Curtis Sims and Mrs. Charles Hanlan, living near Bread Park in Putnam County were killed Saturday afternoon when a Vandalia train struck the buggy in which they were departing from Coatsville. The women were thrown to the pavement and Mrs. Sims was instantly killed. Mrs. Hanlan died in a few minutes. A four year old son of Mrs. Hanlan who was in is mother's arms was injured but will recover. The women drove upon the track in an effort to get across before the train. They are said to have been warned to stop. Mrs. Sims was a daughter of Joel Nelson of Browns Valley. James Nelson, desk Sgt of the Crawfordsville Police Department, Hiram Nelson of Browns Valley and John Nelson of this county are brothers and Mrs. Martha Terrell of Browns Valley is a sister. The relatives have gone to Coatsville where funeral services will probably be held today.
Note: The two women were sisters-in-law
