On Thursday Oct 9th the mortal remains of Ella S. Hammond were followed to their last beautiful resting place in Forest Hill cemetery. While many mourned her untimely death, comparatively few knew her real worth. Truly, it may be said of her, “none knew her but to love her.” She had a disposition of rare sweetness and only those knowing her sunny temper and brave, helpful nature can realize how desolate seems the household without her. The loving voice, the willing hands, the ready feet are gone, leaving only tender memories of her loving spirit to be forever enshrined in their hearts. As she lived so she died for “beautiful living makes beautiful dying.” Unselfish, devoted, performing every duty to the last, even in her last sickness in the midst of great suffering she showed the same sweet patience, the same forgetfulness of self that characterized her when in health. At the close surrounded by every loving care and watchful attention from her grief-stricken family her life slipped like a boat from its moorings and passed over to the other side. May those of us who love her memory, leave a record as pure and spotless. The influence of her beautiful life cannot be lost. The devoted daughter, the loving sister, the faithful friend has only “gone before. --- kbz
