Indianapolis Aug 3 – Mrs. William H. Newhouse, whose husband was killed Friday night at their home near Lawrence in a battle in which two robbers who had attacked him also lost their lives, was still in a serious condition yesterday as a result of the beating with clubs she received at the hands of the robbers and as a result of the shock. The attending physician however expressed the opinion that she will recover. The funeral of Mr. Newhouse will be conducted privately at the residence at 10:30 o’clock this morning. The bodies of the two robbers, Thomas Hall and his son, Roy Hall are at the Beck & Hurley undertaking establishment. Hundreds visited the Newhouse home and the undertaking room yesterday.

Indianapolis Aug 1 – One of the bloodiest crimes in the history of Marion County was entered on the coroner’s records today telling of the triple tragedy at Lawrence near here last night when William H. Newhouse, 61, a crippled farmer was beaten to death by two highwaymen. Before he was knocked unconscious, however, Newhouse shot and killed one highwayman and fatally wounded the other. The robbers were identified as Roy Hall, 18 and his father, Thomas, 53. The Halls had visited the Newhouse home to steal several thousand dollars cash which Newhouse was reported to have received yesterday for his farm. – kbz
