Hale -Wm. Schuyler - Civil War

Source: Richmond Indiana Palladium-Item Wed 23 May 1923 p 12

William Schuyler Hale, 78 years old took his own life Wednesday night at the home of his son, James W. Hale, 216 S 10th St by swallowing poison.  He was found dead on a bed about midnight when the family returned after a few hours’ absence from the home.  The act probably resulted from worry on Mr. Hale’s part over the purchase of an automobile, it was stated by Dr SE Bond, coroner. Mr. Hale is understood to have worried because the certificate of title for his car had not been received and his anxiety was exaggerated by conditions attendant upon his advanced age.  He is believed to have contemplated the act during a trip of several weeks’ length from which he had recently returned.  Mr. Hale was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in the Second Ky Calvary and a member of the ME Church. The near relatives surviving are three sons: James William Hale of this city; George Hale, Montezuma, Ind; Harvey Hale, Bainbridge, Ind and three daughters, Mrs. Verna Kellar of Kokomo, Mrs. Minnie Serker of Waveland Ind and (whoops - somehow missed this)
