Mary Ellen HAINEY, oldest daughter of James Carol and Julia Ann Hainey was born in Washington Co, Indiana on Feb 25, 1866 and entered into her eternal rest at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday Dec 20, 1931 aged 65 years 10 months 15 days. Her marriage to John W. Kelly on March 17, 1889 was the beginning of an unusually happy married life. To this union 12 children were born: Oren of Waveland; Lawrence, Mrs. Ellis Wilson'; Mrs. Ella Everman; Mrs. Ona Proctor; Mrs. Audry Rivers and George of Russellville; Mrs. Pearl Wells of Crawfordsville; John Jr of Indianapolis; Mrs. Ocie Harbison of Detroit, Michigan; Earl the twin brother of Pearl and Charles the youngest child preceded their mother to the home above. She entered into the Christian life while yet a young woman by uniting with the Methodist Church at Livonia, Indiana. She later moved her membership to Mt. Pisgah while living in that community and still later when Russellville became her home, she again moved her membership to the Federated Church, thus demonstrating her joy in services to her church and her King. Her church its pastor and its members will miss her ministrations her willing hands, her kindly counsel, her cheery smile, but can rejoice that their loss is her gain. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of Russellville and will be sadly missed by her fraternal sisters. Besides her good husband and faithful companion of 43 years she leaves six daughters: four sons; 19 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lela Greenslade and Mrs. Lucy Workman of California; and one brother, Roy Hainey of Livonia, Indiana. One sister, Mrs. Laura Martin preceded her in death. Mrs. Kelly had been in failing health for several months but on Aug 26 was confined to her bed with the malady that slowly but surely underminded her vitality. Although a constant sufferer, her thoughts were not concerned about her own comfort but for the loved ones who cared for her so lovingly day and night through the weary weeks of her illness. For 36 years she has lived in or near Russellville and the exemplary life made an impress upon the spiritual and social life of the community that will endure through generations. The writer of this sketch has always looked upon her as an ideal mother. It was a delightful experience to be in their home and see this mother and her six lovely daughters and four stalwart sons and her jovial companion working in many necessary tasks, then all recreation for a well rounded life. Her pride, her joy, her life were her family and while perhaps she has not left much of worldly goods, to bestow upon them, she has left untarnished name, a Christian character, that refused to be conquered and unbounded faith in God. Funeral services were held at Federated Church Thursday afternoon at 2 conducted by Rev. HL Todd. Burial in Russellville Cemetery. - kbz
