Mark Hadley

Source: By G. Patrick Grimes, Banner-Graphic Staff Writer, Coatesville-

A rural Coatesville man was killed Monday when a building which was under demolition collapsed on top of him while he was visiting a neighboring farm.

Mark Hadley, 73, Route 1, Coatesville, was talking to his neighbor, George Kelly, Monday and was leaving the weakened farm structure his neighbor was attempting to demolish when a wall caved in and pinned Hadley under debris.

The Amo Fire department rescue squad was called to the scene and tried to revive Hadley, who was later pronounced dead on arrival at Putnam County Hospital.

Putnam County Corner Dr. Gregory Larkin said Kelly had warned Hadley about the building and advised him to leave the area. When the fatal accident occurred, Larkin said, Hadley was doing just that.

Services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at Weaver-Wingler Funeral Home in Coatesville, with burial in Coatesville Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hadley was born in Hadley, Ind., on Aug. 6, 1906, the son of Paul and Ellen (McCollum) Hadley. He married Vivian Masten in 1927.

He attended Amo High School and was a graduate of Central Normal College, Danville.

The deceased owned the Coatesville Café from 1926 to 1944. He was Coatesville's retired postmaster, a member of the first National Bank of Coatesville's board of trustees, a member of the Birth Right Quaker Church, Coatesville Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, and a life member of the Indianapolis Scottish Right.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian, two grand children and a brother, Nathan. He was preceded in death by his son, David M. Hadley.
