Miss Mary Ellen Guilliams, 75, Rt. 4, a teacher in Crawfordsville schools for 43 years, died at 4 a.m. Monday in Culver Hospital. Miss Guilliams had been secretary of the Crawfordsville High School Alumni Association for 16 years and was the assistant secretary following her retirement in 1962. She graduated from the local high school in 1912 and attended Cornell University before receiving her BA degree from DePauw in 1922. She earned her master's degree from Indiana University in 1934. She also attended Purdue University. Her first teaching assignment was in 1917-1918 at Willson School where she taught the fifth grade. She later taught Spanish and English in secondary schools. Her last position was at Tuttle Junior High School. She was a member of the Flower Lovers Club, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and First Christian Church. Born Nov. 18, 1895, in Parke County, she was the daughter of Charles and Etta Payton Guilliams. The family moved here in 1908. She is survived by one sister, Ruby L. Guilliams, who recently retired after teaching 40 years at South Bend schools. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
