GRISSOM, Julia Hanifen - murdered

Source: Greencastle Herald 26 June 1914 p 1

Mrs. Charles Grissom, age 46 wife of the Newcastle man who shot his wife early Thursday morning and then turned the gun on himself, died at the Grissom home Thursday night.  Grissom, who is a brother of Albert Grissom of Cloverdale and a former resident of Greencastle was known in Greencastle having visited here often.  Grissom was thought to be mentally deranged from brooding over domestic troubles.  He had accused his wife of receiving attentions from another man Wednesday night he went to the downtown district with her and as they walked home they quarreled.  They were still quarreling Thursday morning.  Four shots were heard shortly before 3 o’clock and neighbors found Mrs. Grissom wounded in the front yard.  Grissom was dead.  Both Grissom and his wife had threatened to file suit for divorce and Mrs. Grissom had a complaint drawn up.  In this she alleged that her husband had threatened to kill her.  Five children, three of whom are daughters, survive.  It was reported at first that Frank, the eldest son who was 13 on Thursday was also shot by his father but this was unfounded. – kbz
