The self administration of carbolic acid is given by County Coroner Frank Reed as the cause of the death of Virgil Gooch at his home west of Morton Monday morning. He had become despondent it is said due to lack of work and depleted financial disgrace ? He was 51 years old and was the father of Eugene Gooch of Bainbridge and Mrs. Robert Carmichael. The widow also survives. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 with interment at West Union. Mr. Gooch was a patrolman under the Indiana State Highway Commission for some 14 years, serving until his job was taken from him by the Democratic administration in the spring of 1933. He was one of the best maintenance formen in the state and kept his many miles of road in the best condition possible with the means at his disposal. It was seldom that snow drifts seriously affected his road although to keep it clear often meant working through nights and days without sleep. – kbz
