Funeral services for EJ Goffinett, 76, retired Blue Mound farmer will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Blue Mound Methodist church. Mr. Goffinet was injured fatally at about 10 p.m. Saturday when his car ran into a ditch. The accident occurred one mile north of Boody on Rt 48. Mr. Goffinett was driving alone and was returning from the midget auto races at Macon. The accident may have been a result of several barricades on route 48, which were erected for road repair work. He was found by two Decatur physicians who were also motoring back from the races at Macon. They called an ambulance which took him to St Mary’s hospital. He died there at 10:45 p.m. Mr. Goffinett lived one mile south of Blue Mound. His son J. Everett Goffinett lives on an adjacent farm. Mr. Goffinett was born March 26, 1876 the son of Joseph and Mary Pierson Goffinett. He married Sarah Soper in Greencastle, Ind. She died in 1933. He then married Blanche Soper, her sister who preceded him in death in 1938. In addition to his son, he leaves a sister, Mrs. CR Christison of Decatur and four grandchildren. Coroner Harold Brintlinger said an inquest will be held. Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home after 3 p.m. today. Burial will be in Hall cemetery, Blue Mound. Before death, Mr. Goffinet (sic) requested that no flowers be sent to his funeral. - kbbz
