Ruth Estelle Gibson, 85 of South Bend, Ind passed away on Saturday May 31 at Regency Place Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. She was born April 5, 1912 in Greencastle, Ind to the late Eunice and Sarah (Hammond) Miles. She married Harry Gibson on Jan 22, 1953 who preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. She is survived by her nephews, Fay Miles of Denver, Colo and Clarence Ewing of Fishers, Ind. Mrs. Gibson retired from the former Saint Joseph Hospital as a licensed practical nurse in 1963 after 20 years service. She was an avid artist and had her works displayed at the Forever Learning Institute in South Bend. She also was a published poet with works published in the Indianapolis News and in the New Voices of American Poetry in 1977. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday June 4 at the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street with Mr. Mark Wagner of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Miami Trails Congregation officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the congregation or to other charities of donor’s choice. – kbz
