Under Morton (news) – Delbirt Clinton Gibson was born January 12, 1873; died August 26, 1895 aged 22 years, 7 months 14 days. Birt had been a sufferer with an acute form of hip disease for a period of 7 years being confined to his bed for six years of that time. He bore his sufferings with the greatest patience, submitting with the greatest humility to what he believed to be the will of God. Birt was prepared to meet his loved and loving savior; and often spoke of the great happiness awaiting him when the Lord should take him home to be with Him in Heaven forever and forever. When his mother left his bedside five days before his death to go to northern Michigan for the relief of that dread disease – hay fever – he told her to go that he did not want her to stay with him and lose her life; but that he wanted her to live to care for his sister, Hallie who is now in her 13th years. He leaves to mourn his loss besides a host of warm friends; a father, mother, sister and two brothers – Charlie who is married and lives near New Maysville and George who lives at home with his parents and sister. Birt’s life and death humbly submitting to the will of the Lord and loving and trusting in Him always should be a bright and shining example to many older and far less earnest Christians. - transcribed by kbz
