Russellville - Vernon "Hap" Gardner, 78, of Russellville died Thursday afternoon in Culver Hospital, following an extended illness. He was a retired school teacher after 40 years of service. He was a 50-year member of Russellville Masonic Lodge 141 and Russellville Christian Church. He was a WWI veteran. Gardner was born Oct 2, 1899 at Russellville, a son of Bert and Etta Gardner. His first wife preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Carman; three daughters, Mrs. Norma Shonkwiler of Greenwood; Mrs. Marilyn Plackner of Colorado and Mrs. Carol McCabe of Rockville; a son, Paul Gardner of Colorado; a stepson, two stepdaughters; 16 grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Russellville Christian Church. The Rev. Leo Thompson and Rev. Lester Niles will officiate. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday in McGaughey & Son Funeral Home at Russellville.
