As I typed the nice article listed as a medic I wondered if he came home - few did but he either switched what he was or was a medic within that unit and yes, HE CAME HOME - then to have this happen to him - I was devastated as I typed the other obituary - oh - he died the 4th of July weekend about the same time I'm typing this - Rest in peace dear man & thank you for your service, both in the war and in the police department. I hope that boy paid for what he did to you!

Private First Class Marshall Ruark Foster has been in the Air Corps Medical Detachment since February. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Foster, 22 Beveridge Street and was recently home on a 10-day furlough and just returned to duty from a four-day pass. His address is Medical Detachment, Westover Field Chicopee Falls, Mass.

A newly appointed police emergency squad patrolman, who was killed in the line of duty while directing traffic at a fire was the only violent death in Indianapolis as the long holiday week end entered its second day Saturday. Eleven persons already had lost their lives in the state from various causes during the holiday, including five deaths Thursday… Marshall R. Foster, 28, 3249 N. Capitol Ave who had recently been appointed to the police emergency squad was killed as a result of injuries received when he was struck by an automobile while directing traffic at the scene of a fire at Michigan and Alabama streets Friday night. Police arrested William E. Keller, 22 of Albany, the driver of the car, and charged him with vagrancy. Keller, according to police, declined to take a drunkometer test. Mr. Keller was released on $1,000 bond today when his case was continued until July 18 by Judge Joseph M. Howard in Municipal Court Room 3. Witnesses said the policeman was knocked several feet into the air by the impact and then was dragged more than `100’ past the scene of the accident. Mr. Foster died in City Hospital 15 minutes after the tragedy. He suffered a skull fracture, broken neck and broken left leg. Funeral services for Mr. Foster will be held Tuesday forenoon in the Flanner & Buchanan Mortuary. Burial will be in Greencastle, following afternoon services there in the Christian Church. Rev. RC Wenger, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, Indianapolis will officiate at both services. Mr. Foster served four years as a member of the 872nd Airborne Engineers in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was born in Greencastle, where he was graduated from high school in 1937. Before entering the Army he was an employee of the PR Mallory Co, Indianapolis. He was a member of the Christian Church, Greencastle. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Nobia Foster, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Foster, and two brothers, Walter H. and Richard D. Foster, all of Indianapolis.
