The death of Samuel P. Forgey occurred last Sunday at his late residence, just south of the city on the Danville hill. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.M. Stafford, assisted by Rev. L.C. Buckles on Tuesday morning and interment was made at the Masonic cemetery. Mr. Forgey was born in Montgomery county, Ky., on March 22, 1819 and removed to Putnam county when he was eight years of age. He was married to his first wife, Miss Mahala O. Magill in 1840, by whom he had several children. He came to this county in 1841 and settled on a farm in Scott township, where he lived until Nov. 27, 1884. His first wife died in 1883, and on April 1, 1884, he was married to Mrs. Phoeba A. Watkins, an only sister of S.H. and W.P. Gregg. Mr. Forgey has been a member of the Methodist church since 1831, and has lived a quiet and honorable life, fair in all his dealings and a most respected citizen. Two of his sons live on the old home place near Whitesville, and the others in Kansas. His daughter is the wife of George Miles, of this county. Mr. Forgey is the brother of Mrs. Gardener, who resides near Russellville.
