FISHER, Martha Hobson - Putnam

Mrs. John DeWitt Fisher, whose critical illness was reported last week, died about one on Monday afternoon. Funeral services at the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday afternoon were in charge of Drs. Boyer and McGuinness. Burial in Maple Ridge Cemetery. The following Biography was read: Martha Virena HOBSON, daughter of Milton and Charity Hobson was born near Marshall, Indiana, April 16, 1866 and departed this life at her home near Waveland, ind, April 19, 1926 aged 60 years and 3 days. Martha Hobson grew to young womanhood in the Marshall community, Oct 27, 1886 she was united in marriage to John Dewitt Fisher of Waveland; and in this latter community she spent the remainder of her life. The union was blessed with five children, three daughters: Mrs. Foster Fudge of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Clifford Banta of Philadelphia; and Miss Corinne Fisher at home; by two sons, John D. of Crawfordsville and Alfred A. of near Waveland. Mrs. Fisher was brought up in the Christian faith of the Friends Church which was her faith by family rights, but the heritage of this faith she claimed of her own right through conversion and professsion of her faith in Christ. Upon coming to Waveland she united with the Presbyterian Church by letter, and in that Christian fellowship Mrs. Fisher remained an active, consistent and devoted member. Mrs. Fisher's presence and active participation in the churches' work in the various departments were clearly evident. She will be greatly missed. She was a woman of fine motherly traits, and had a wide circle of friends. Her home was ever a place of welcome to friends and relatives, who found there a hospitality so sincere and genuine that it endeared her to all who knew her. Her health had apparently been so good so little did she complain that the sudden attack of this fatal ailment in the early morning, April 8 was a shock to loved ones and the community. She gradually grew worse until the release by the angel of death. To her this strange and sudden providence was all right; she asked that there be no sorrow. She showed splended Christian fortitude even in going down into the Valley of Shadows. To loved ones there is grief, for there is separation, but the pain of sorrow is taken away, for the sting of death is destroyed. Sorrow not as those having no hope. Besides her husband and children she is survived by five grandchildren, four brothers, Geo. W. Hobson of Corning, Cal; Joseph D, John R. and Wallace Hobson of Parke County, by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Blake of Anderson and Mrs. Rhoda Fullenwider of Waveland.
