The death angel again paid a visit to our community and claimed one of our citizens. Emma May, daughter of John and Lutetia Monnet was born near Coatesville, Ind on May 22, 1868 and after an illness of several weeks passed away peaceably at her home in Greencastle, Ind on April 18 at the age of 69 years 11 months and 26 days. Shew grew to young womanhood in the neighborhood in which she was born and at an early age she accepted Christ as her loving Saviour and became a member of the Canaan Methodist Church and in later years changing to the Maple Heights Methodist Church in which faith she continued to abide until the end of her earthly life. On June 28, 1888 she was united in marriage to Samuel Figg near Reno, Ind and to this union was born six children, three boys and three girls of which two girl with their father have passed to the Great Beyond. She has been a resident of Greencastle for the last 40 years and her passing away will be sadly missed by who knew her. She is survived by four children: Lona E of Indianapolis; Mrs. Hazel Phillips of near Coatesville, Ind; Ernest V of Denver Colo and Forest at home; 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild and two brothers, Alvin and Edward Monnet of this city and a host of nieces and nephews. “The rolling stream of time flows on but still the vacant chair recalls the love, the voice, the smile of Mother who once sat there. The flowers we lay upon your grave may wither and decay but the love we have for you dear will never fade away. A loving mother, so true and kind, no friend on earth like her we find; for all of us she did her best, May God grant her eternal rest.
By request of the family – we wish to extend our deep appreciation and thanks to the minister and the undertaker and to all our neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us in our sad bereavement – the family.|
I wish to personally thank each and every one of my neighbors and friends for their kindness and sympathy and floral offerings during the illness and death of my mother and Mr. Raphael and Mr. Rector for their services …. Forest A. Figg ---kbz
