The last Rockport Democrat brings us the sad intelligence of the death of our old and respected brother, Samuel P. Farley. He died of cholera on the 3d of July. He left this place some four months ago to take charge of a newspaper establishment in Rockport. He was connected with the publication of a paper in Greencastle some years ago as well as one at Terre Haute and one at Marshall, Illinois. But few excelled him in his profession and in his business associations he was sociable, industrious and trustworthy – the editor of The Democrat in whose employ he was thus speaks of the deceased: “As a husband, father, friend and neighbor, he proved himself to be kind, affectionate, firm and agreeable and being thus, his departure from among us is a severe affliction. But we “mourn not as those having no hope,” for we are assured by the good book that there is a better and a brighter world. Our friend, doubtless had his foiables and who has not yet we feel assured that through the economy of our Heavenly Father our loss is an eternal gain to our friend. Mr. F leaves a family and large circle of relatives to mourn his untimely departure hence. - kbz
