Arthur Luther (Lute) Evens, age 91 years one of Putnaville’s most beloved and respected citizens, passed away just before midnight Saturday at the home of his son, Roy in Putnamville. Mr. Evens, who was a farmer and carpenter during his earlier life, was perhaps best known for his long service and devotion to the Putnamville Methodist Church, having served in many official capacities over a long period of years. The deceased was born Aug 234, 1863, the son of John W. and Margaret Calihan Evens. Mr. Evens had not been in the best of health for a number of years and his death, although not unexpected, came as a shock to his family and untold number of friends and acquaintances. He was able to be in Greencastle 10 days ago and spent some time visiting and chatting in the courthouse. He is survived by one son, Roy; three brothers, Thomas W. Evens of Kansas; Herschel Evans of California; Edward Evens of Clayton; three granddaughters, Mrs. Gerald Sublett, Mrs. Fred Gostage and Rebecca Gail Evens of Putnamville and a great grandson, Arthur Evens of Cloverdale RR 1 and 8 great grandchildren. Last rites will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the Putnamville Methodist Church with burial in the Putnamville cemetery. Rev. Frank Travis will have charge of the services. Friends may call at the Rector Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Tuesday. The body will then be taken to the church for two hours before the funeral. - kbz
